Karen has worked within the audiology profession since 1993, having previously worked within the NHS. She embarked on her audiological career originally joining as Practice Manager for an independent hearing centre.
She set up her own award-winning practice in Ipswich town centre in 1998, and over a 22 year period grew that business to a team of 25 staff, looking after patients from 26 clinics across Suffolk and Norfolk. In 2020, Karen sold the business due to health and family issues just before Covid arrived.
Karen is one of the leading audiologists in the UK and is a past President and a Fellow of the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists (BSHAA). She is very personable, practical and knowledgeable in the hearing field of diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology. She loves being involved with the latest hearing technology and never ceases to be amazed by new hearing technology.
Karen has won several national and local awards over the years for her dedication to her profession, her entrepreneurialism and her high levels of patient care.
Favourite sound: Waves rolling in on Southwold beach.
Why I love my job: The ability to change lives through improved communication.
Interesting fact: I'm an Ipswich Town season ticket holder and at any opportunity I get, you will find me at Portman Road cheering on the Super Blues!
Teresa is a long-standing childhood friend of Karen's. Teresa worked for Karen's previous company in 1999 and retrained to become an Audiologist shortly after. She spent over 20 years looking after patients across both Suffolk and Norfolk.
Teresa is one of the most caring people you will ever have the pleasure of meeting and she likes to spend time getting to know her patients, in order to get a good understanding of their hearing issues.
Favourite sound: A cork popping out of a nice bottle of wine!
Why I love my job: The variety of work I get to do - no two days are ever the same.
Interesting fact: I'm only 5ft tall, but at school I always beat the 'tall' girls at the high jump!
Melvyn is Karen's husband, qualified in audiology in 2005 and over a 15-year period he looked after thousands of patients in his hearing clinics up and down the Suffolk coast.
Melvyn’s passion is earwax removal. His clinical ear care and audiology expertise means he is well placed to offer careful and considered advice on all things waxy!
Favourite sound: Teeing off for a round of golf.
Why I love my job: The satisfaction, personal pride and joy you experience when someone who hasn’t been able to hear very well for some time, perhaps even years, says they can finally hear the things that personally matter to them, such as family conversation or birdsong. That really does take some beating!
Interesting fact: My great grandfather used to be the keeper of Southwold lighthouse.
Matthew is the eldest son of Karen's and the pair have worked together in the hearing profession for over 20 years.
Although not clinically trained, Matthew's expertise and experience lie behind the scenes with the company's operations, marketing, business planning and ensuring we deliver on our vision to help as many people with hearing loss as possible, to live better lives.
Matthew is married, has two young children, and is a keen fundraiser for a number of local charities.
Favourite sound: The roar of the crowd at Portman Road.
Why I love my job: I love seeing what a huge difference we make to peoples' lives and the impact our work has.
Interesting fact: In 2022 I ran my very first marathon - the London Marathon, in a time of 5:55.
"A big thank you to Karen for turning my life around and giving me the ability to hear in a way I didn’t think was possible.
This is just the start of better hearing and a big confidence boost. My only regret is that I didn't make an appointment with Karen years ago."
